Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020
Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the Lord rises upon you.
See, darkness covers the earth and
thick darkness is over the peoples,
but the Lord rises upon you and
his glory appears over you.
Nations will come to your light, and
kings to the brightness of your dawn.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Living Christ, we celebrate you today. You are alive! Christ the Lord is risen! Alleluia! You are the Light of the World. The forces of evil tried to snuff out your light, but you prevailed. Sin and death could not keep you in the grave. The tomb is empty! Hallelujah!
God of glory and might, through your great power you have granted us new strength to endure all things through faith in Christ our risen King. We praise your wonderful name!
Spirit of the Sovereign Lord, you have fallen afresh upon us and given us this new resurrection life. You have anointed us with the very presence, peace and power of Almighty God. We adore you with faithful hearts.
O Lord our God, we thank you that Easter is about people receiving your love and your salvation. We confess together that the tomb is empty! And because Jesus is risen, we know forgiveness, joy and peace! Our lives are reborn and your name is glorified. Christ, you are the risen Lord and King. We celebrate you. Amen.
I Corinthians 15:3-8
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.
After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement
give you a spirit of unity among yourselves
as you follow Christ Jesus,
so that with one heart and mouth
you may glorify the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
