Canoeing, Coffee and Canines

After his faith and love for his family and friends, Pastor Brian loves the great outdoors and exploring God’s creation by paddling a canoe. He is also a coffee aficionado who drinks locally roasted coffee beans which are imported in a direct trade relationship from a farmer in Guatemala. God healed Pastor Brian of a lifelong allergy to dogs and now his life has been transformed by Golden Retrievers: Charis and her daughter Ahava.

May 2021 – Pentecost

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me” (Luke 4:18).

Jesus read these words from Isaiah 61:1 at the start of his ministry; it was his inaugural vision for what He was about to do. Jesus is the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity, and He still experienced the Holy Spirit coming upon him and anointing him. May 23 is the day we celebrate Pentecost (read the story in Acts 2), which is when the Holy Spirit is poured out upon Jesus’ disciples. The same anointing that came upon Jesus comes upon all his followers, even those of us who live 2000 years later. The moment you trusted Jesus as Lord and Savior, you received the Holy Spirit’s anointing, which includes God’s gifts, power, peace, presence, grace and so much more. You have been touched by the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord! The Holy Spirit’s anointing on Jesus moved him to touch people and bring spiritual renewal:

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed” (Luke 4:18).

The anointing of the Holy Spirit is upon us. The Holy Spirit has transformed and renewed our hearts. We are sent out by Jesus to bring this good news message of salvation to those around us who do not know Jesus.

  • Who is someone that you know who needs Jesus?
  • In prayer, ask the Holy Spirit to open his/her heart to this good news.
  • And then, walk the way of Jesus the way Jesus walked the way.

Join Jesus in Ministry
As we read the gospels, we read many stories of Jesus meeting people. Jesus heals people of physical disease. He offers love and acceptance to sinful people. He calls a despicable man to be his disciple. He treats women with dignity and respect. Jesus invites all of us to be his followers and thus to live our lives in the same way that He lived his life. Jesus offered love, hope, peace, grace, joy, laughter, mercy, acceptance, security, worth, purpose, understanding and so much more to people. We continue to the ministry of Jesus today when we treat people the same way that Jesus treated people. We continue the ministry of Jesus today when we devote our time, energy, resources to people.
Jesus has brought someone into your life so that you can reveal his character and passion to them.
  • Who is that person?
  • In prayer, ask Jesus, “How can I reveal You to this person?”
  • And then, follow Jesus in trust and obedience.

March 2021

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here;

he has risen,

just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples:

He has risen from the dead

and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” (Matthew 28:5-7)

EASTER is coming! The Good News message is a reality: Jesus is risen from the dead! Because Jesus is alive, we have new life. Jesus’ resurrection has changed everything for us. We can now live in freedom, forgiveness, love, hope, peace, and joy. We give praise and thanks to God for this indescribable gift!

January 2021

This past year has had a lot of challenges and changes from the Coronavirus pandemic. As we look ahead to the New Year, we set our minds and hearts on Jesus. Jesus invites us to put the full weight of our trust on him in any and every situation. Because Jesus was born to be the Savior, He ushers in a new kingdom: the Kingdom of God. We no longer need to conform to the ways of the kingdom of this world; instead, we can allow the rule of Jesus through his Holy Spirit to guide us in this year ahead.

Our current focus is the Kingdom of God and what that means for us as Christians living in 2021.

We invite you to worship with us IN-PERSON or ONLINE. You may join us Sundays at 10:00am for in-person worship (while following pandemic protocols: masks, hand sanitizing, social distancing, or stay home if you are sick) or online through Facebook Live.

Immanuel has been partnering in ministry and worship with House of God for several years. We will continue to worship together.

In honor of Black History month, Pastor Sam has gathered some links to some articles and videos that provide additional insight into the struggles African Americans experience in our country.  Click here to see these links.

Please stay safe and healthy during these changing and challenging times.
